Is a mesh Wi-Fi system worth it?

A mesh system is worth it in larger homes or those with dead zones a single router cannot cover, since it blankets the space with multiple nodes. In a small apartment a good single router is usually enough and cheaper. The biggest performance factor is backhaul: wiring the nodes with Ethernet dramatically outperforms letting them link wirelessly.
