Jitter

Jitter is the variation in latency over time. Even a fast connection feels unstable if ping bounces between 20 ms and 120 ms, causing choppy calls and rubber-banding in games. Fiber and a wired connection keep jitter low; congested Wi-Fi and bufferbloat make it worse.
