ONT (Optical Network Terminal)

The ONT is the box that converts the fiber light signal into an Ethernet signal your router can use. On fiber plans it replaces the cable modem. It is usually provider-installed and provider-owned, so unlike a cable modem you generally cannot buy your own to skip a rental fee.
